Music is powerful. It can conjure all sorts of emotions, it can change your way of thinking, it can help you relax and it can save your life. That’s just me talking from my own experience. What are your experiences? How has music helped you? Some of my earliest memories involve music, either as the soundtrack or the hero. I knew from a very early age that music would play a major part of my life. Once I understood what music was doing to me, I wanted to share that with everyone. I wanted people to experience what I was experiencing. To be responsible for that happiness and joy. To express those emotions and thoughts, highs and lows, in a way that might help someone; even if it’s just to relax for 5 minutes.
My guitar teacher once told me that you can learn something from everyone. He told me to play guitar with as many guitarists as possible. He said you may just take away one little thing from them, but you will always take away something. Sometimes it is what not to do. I try to apply that advice to all factors of my life. You can learn something from anyone. Some people play and write music every day, with different bands and projects; others organise a show, practice for that show, when the show is over they go back to their day job. Some of the best guitarists I have met play for the pure enjoyment of it at home with no desire to perform their amazing talent. Others have the desire and determination to perform but lack the technical skill of the home player, yet they make it work. Their passion shines through.
These people I refer to are people that I have learned valuable lessons from. Play for joy and do it with passion. This is why I write. I share my experiences with you in the hope that you will take something away from it. Even if it is what not to do. If I inspire one of you to play from the heart, then I have succeeded. #music #power #playfromtheheart #regsmcveigh #oneinchmen #guitar
